The Forum on China-Algeria Economic Cooperation was jointly held by MOFCOM and Ministry for Promotion of Investment and Participation of Algeria in Beijing on Nov 7. Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Vice Minister of Commerce Wei Jianguo attended and delivered speeches respectively.
Mr. Wei said there was profound traditional friendship between peoples in China and Algeria. Algeria was one of the earliest African countries that established diplomatic relations with China and provided great support to China in international affairs for a long time. It was China's trustworthy brother, friend and partner. Trade and economic cooperation between China and Algeria turned better development in recent years. Under great support of both governments and joint effort by both enterprises, cooperation developed smoothly in trade, energy resources, infrastructure construction and using of solar energy. In 2005, trade value between the two countries amounted to US$1.77 billion, up by 42.7% year-on-year, and bilateral trade value in Jan-Aug 2006, hit US$1.39 billion, up by 17% year-on-year.
Mr. Wei said that, holding under FCAC, the Forum was a pageant expected by industrial and commercial communities in China and Algeria. It would increase understanding between entrepreneurs in China and Algeria, deepen mutual friendship, bring positive and profound influence on further closely cooperation, and play a significant role in cooperation between China and African countries. We hoped entrepreneurs to take the Forum as an opportunity, together make effort in pushing bilateral trade and economic cooperation to a higher level, broader field and larger scale and gain more abundant achievement and bring benefit to the peoples.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika appraised China's fast economic development. He said that China and Algeria had strong complementarity in economy and had great potential and wider prospect in bilateral trade and economic cooperation. He hoped that Chinese ventures could further expand investment in Algeria, introduce more successful experience and advanced technique, keep strengthening exchange and cooperation in building industry, petrochemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, electrical industry, high-tech and machine building industry, and lead greater development to bilateral trade and economic relations.
At the Forum, over 200 entrepreneurs from both countries held matching talks in pharmaceutical industry, building material and engineering and mechanical industry.
